Privacy Policy

Perch measures places to work from. To do that we need a little data about places and, when you contribute, a little about you. This page says exactly what we collect, why, who touches it, and what we will never do with it. The one-line version: we collect readings about rooms, not profiles about people.
What we collect, and why
- Readings you submit (Wi-Fi speed, noise level, crowding, ratings, notes, an optional photo, the venue and time of your visit). This is the product; it is published on venue pages after review, credited to your contributor name when you're signed in.
- Your account, if you create one: email address and a display name. Sign-in is passwordless (an emailed link), so we never store a password. The email is used to sign you in and credit your readings; it is not shown publicly, sold, or used for marketing.
- Your location, only when you tap a "use my location" button, only in that moment, and only to identify the venue and its address. Your coordinates are used for that lookup and are not stored as a location history. We never track location in the background.
- Microphone audio, only while you run a noise measurement. The audio is processed on your device into a single decibel number; the sound itself is never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
- On-device storage (localStorage): saved spots, your own recent readings, and small preferences live in your browser so the site works instantly and offline. They stay on your device unless you sign in to sync saved spots.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no ad trackers, no analytics that follow you across sites.
- No selling or renting data, ever. Venue scores can't be bought and neither can you.
- No background location, no contact scraping, no engagement bait.
Cookies and local storage
We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Signing in stores a session token in your browser's local storage (that's what keeps you signed in). Saved spots and your own readings also live in local storage. Clearing your browser data removes all of it.
Who processes data for us
- Supabase hosts our database and authentication (accounts, readings, saved spots).
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Resend delivers sign-in emails.
- Cloudflare provides the Wi-Fi speed test (your connection speed is measured against their servers).
- OpenStreetMap services (Nominatim, Photon) turn coordinates into addresses when you use location features.
- Formspree or email may carry a reading submission when the database path is unavailable.
Each processor receives only what its job requires. None of them may use your data for their own purposes beyond providing the service.
Your rights
Wherever you live (including the EU under GDPR and California under CCPA), we honor the same rights for everyone: ask what we hold about you, correct it, export it, or delete it. Deleting your account removes your profile and email; your published readings can either be anonymized (kept as "anonymous percher") or removed entirely, your choice. Email hello@perch.coffee and a human answers.
Children
Perch is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the "last updated" date changes and significant changes get a plain-language note on this page. We will never quietly expand what we collect.
